There’s something special about fall in Placer County.

The mornings get a little cooler, pumpkin patches start popping up, downtown districts come alive with seasonal events, and weekends suddenly feel like they were made for getting outside.

One of our favorite things about living and working in this part of Northern California is how easy it is to turn an ordinary Saturday into a full day of adventure. You can start with coffee in Roseville, spend the afternoon exploring Auburn, catch live music in the evening, and still be home before bedtime.

If you're looking for things to do in Placer County this fall, here are 10 ideas to add to your calendar.

1. Celebrate at Roseville Fall Family Fest

Fall Family Fest returns to Roseville on September 19, 2026, with hands-on activities for kids, live entertainment and the always-popular Big Trucks Zone.

It's an easy choice for families looking for a community event where the kids can stay entertained without having to plan an entire day around it.

Roots Tip: Arrive early, especially if your little ones want plenty of time around the trucks and activities.

2. Spend an Evening at Symphony & Art in the Park

Also happening September 19, Auburn Symphony brings Symphony & Art in the Park to School Park Preserve.

The free event combines art exhibits and live performances, culminating with Auburn Symphony in the evening.

Bring a low-back chair or picnic blanket and make a night of it.

3. Catch a Concert in Downtown Roseville

Roseville's Concerts on the Square continues September 19 with Summer Night City, an ABBA tribute.

Grab dinner downtown, find a spot near Vernon Street and enjoy an evening of live music.

It's one of those events that reminds us how much Roseville's downtown has grown into a true gathering place for the community.

4. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

Nothing says fall quite like picking out a pumpkin.

Compassion Planet's Pumpkin Patch in Auburn is scheduled to begin September 25 and includes pumpkins along with family activities such as a kids' play area, face painting, balloon art and a petting zoo.

Whether you're searching for the perfect porch pumpkin or simply want an excuse to spend an afternoon outside with the kids, a pumpkin patch belongs on the fall bucket list.

5. Experience Party on the Preserve

On September 26, Placer Land Trust is hosting Party on the Preserve at Laursen Bear River Preserve.

The family-friendly outdoor celebration includes an optional hike, games, pony rides, live music and food.

It's a particularly fun way to experience another side of Placer County while supporting the preservation of the beautiful landscapes that make this area so special.

Registration is required, so plan ahead.

6. Explore Historic Downtown Auburn

You don't necessarily need an event to enjoy Auburn in the fall.

Spend an afternoon wandering Old Town and Downtown Auburn, popping into local shops, grabbing lunch and exploring the area's Gold Rush history.

As the temperatures cool down, Auburn also makes a great starting point for nearby outdoor adventures.

7. Experience Auburn Porchfest

On October 4, Auburn Porchfest turns neighborhood porches into stages.

Local residents host musicians for live performances, creating a community-wide music festival that's completely different from a traditional concert.

Walk the neighborhood, discover local musicians and enjoy one of the area's more unique community events.

8. Head to the Auburn Fall Festival

Save October 24 for the Auburn Fall Festival.

Downtown Auburn's family-friendly celebration is scheduled to include a costume contest, Kids Zone, food, vendors and plenty of fall atmosphere.

It's a great option for families looking for Halloween-season fun without making everything about trick-or-treating.

9. Explore a Local Trail

Fall is one of our favorite times to explore Placer County outdoors.

Instead of spending another weekend inside, pick a trail, pack some snacks and go explore.

From neighborhood paths in Roseville and Rocklin to the foothill scenery surrounding Auburn, you don't have to travel far to find beautiful outdoor spaces.

10. Make Your Own Placer County Fall Day

Sometimes the best plans aren't events at all.

Pick a local coffee shop you've never tried.

Visit a farmers market.

Grab lunch from a locally owned restaurant.

Take the kids to a new park.

Walk through a neighborhood you've always wondered about.

Then finish the day with dinner somewhere local.
